Unistage Hits the Right Note at Blackburn Cathedral

Here at Unistage, we’re not just about staging – we also design bespoke furniture to meet our customers’ individual requirements. So, when Blackburn Cathedral’s Song School got in touch with us with some ideas for a tailored refurbishment project, we were only too pleased to help.

The Song School is home to Blackburn Cathedral’s nine choirs, so it was vital for Unistage to come up with a design that would be in tune with their needs. The last major renovation for the school happened almost 40 years ago, so we knew we had to get this one right!

The project began right at the bare bones – with schematic drawings from an architect working on the project. With the Song School’s needs being so unique, it was important to make sure that our designs for their lockers, cabinets and units really fit the bill.

We set to work, with our designers developing a range of bespoke fittings and fixtures that would help the Song School make the most of their premises.

Our skilled tradesmen expertly manufactured and finished all the fixtures from high quality materials, including birch plywood, which is both lightweight and robust. The end result was a range of fitted units that look sleek and smart while making the most of every inch of available space.

The Song School now has plenty of storage for equipment, while the changing rooms are kitted out with units for the choirs to hang their robes in – it’s a neater, smarter and safer way to store.

Canon Andrew Hindley commented on the recent renovations, saying:

“The area was badly in need of a new look and this has vastly improved the whole section for the work of the musicians.

“It had become horribly shabby. It is now a suitable space for our choirs to rehearse, and it matches the quality of their singing! It has all the latest technology and superb joinery work by two local Blackburn firms.”
